The Winners go Swimming
We are looking at a pool in an oriental hotel complex. The image of pure swimming fun is however disturbed as we note an armed soldier posted at the entrance. Clearly to have a secure feeling in this area you need a particular military protection. Also on the top right corner of the pool there`s a watchman and we can see discarded clothes and a machine gun. It`s army personnel swimming here – that`s the privilege of the conqueror, to enjoy himself after the battle in the buildings and areas which have been taken. Finally they can wash their hands of blood clinging to their hands. They can wash temselves with sand, since water and food are strictly rationed and firstly the winners take their portion, to satisfy their needs – that`s why they bring the water stocks to the swimming pool. Byut as long as he has to defend his privileges with weapons, the war isn`t over, even when the winners announce the end of the war. The history of 2004 is behind the double-meaning of the title.
