Enemies at my Table
The title shows an unusual situation which involves unpleasantness and danger. A hand is lying on the table, as if it has given up reaching for something. Perhaps of a corpse or an unconscious person at the table. From the right side a second hand with a machine gun is pushing into the picture. The table and the room appear to be the scene of a highly threatening situation. We cant see who the enemy at the table is and which hand is his. Not just the machine gun, but also the base colour of the picture – emerald green, familiar from television war reporting, show it as a war scene. It is night in this warzone and nighttime isn`t normally the active time for mankind. Without a technical instrument they would be in the dark unable to find their way. The night-vision device shows up all colours, even the blood, as green. It`s completely different to animals naturally active at night. Their eyes can see everything in the dark. In the middle of the picture under the corner of the table, we discove a cat. She ses averything without the night-vision device and this house cat too expresses the title of the picture. We always forget that it`s not just men who die in war, that living creatures and their ecosystems are equally threatened.
