Either they throw bombs or they come with diggers

Where bombs are thrown, no stone remains on top of another. Deep craters are made and entire strips of land are brought to similar fertility. The diggers on the other hand are a symbol of reconstruction and new beginning. They too cause huge movements of the earth, but with the objective of creating living room and roads. In war and postwar zones the normal is often reversed into its opposite and diggers become bombs, as the heavy machinery is also used to destroy houses and living spaces. On the left side of the picture we see the digger shoves and imagine how they perform their work. In the background we see a giant fortress with watchtowers and patrolling soldiers. You could think this fort is left over from the middle ages, but the scenes take place in 2004 in Palestine and the concrete building is the Security Fence (Separation Wall) built by Israel. As in all occupied territories the rights of the stronger rule; land is taken and owners are dispossessed. The houses, that stood in the way of the construction of the separation wall wer destroyed by diggers and the over 200 year old olive trees which have nourished generations were uprooted. The farmer in the foreground leans against the stump of a torn out olive tree. He is shocked and destroyed on the ground, as he no longer knows how to feed his family.
