Rattling poppies
Whoever has walked through a poppyfield suspects no evil. His sea of pale pink blossoms, rattling lightlyin the breeze, awakens a dreamerish sensation far more than fear. And yet – the war affects each landscape. However peaceful or romantic they may appear and whatever feelings it awakens in mankind. The poppyfield set in the picture is in Afghanistan and we have strormy times in this country – it`s at war. The meadow of blossoms is a mess and the rattling is emphasized by the sound of explosions. We see a soldier, who has sought cover in the poppyfield. Around him is fierce fighting. On the left side of the picture we recognize a machine gun, cartridge shells from which fly upin the centre of the picture. On the right side of the picture a fighter stands pushing back with a pistol. The sea of blood is trodden down and the rattling of the poppyblades have become rat-tat-tatting of the weapons in soldiers` hands. This year there will be no harvest in the field. The land has to be cleared of blood, gunshells and mines, and recultivated.
