Family photos don`t cry
In family photos you don`t see tears. They always show happy faces. It`s the relations, the onlookers who shed tears. Either from happiness or to mourn. The woman in the picture has a photo of her beloved high, man or child – but she can no longer cry as she has spilled all of the tears she possibly could. Death, loss, doubt are on the daily agenda in wartime. Beside her on the street there are other women with a picture. They all ask one question, who last saw my beloved and is he alive or dead. The not knowing is unbearable and drives one crazy. The laughing faces on the pictures, often wedding photos, have disappeared. Because nothing is as it was before. The men are dead or have disappeared. The houses are destroyed and there`s hardly anything to eat. The future and the wishes for a happy life are destroyed. Her own life has been threatened so often that she doesn`t care at all when a soldier pushes a gun barrel into her forehead.
